I live in Europe (Spain), and just a couple of weeks ago there was some news coverage about this. Wine producers in Portugal and Spain are freaking out due to the impact tariffs will have on their businesses, as the US is one of their main export markets.

Oof, that’s not good. Spain and Portugal are known to have great quality wines at lower prices here in the States. If the tariffs make these unattainable at affordable prices, there’s gonna be a huge hole in the market. (Adds a bottle of Priorat to cart.)

I’m not sure what is going on with the tariffs to be honest. Some say Trump is purposefully tanking the market with tariffs so that his buddies can buy in the dip and sell high when he lifts them. In my view Trump is someone that is usually all talk considering how little he ever follows through on his threats, I remember him promising Kim Jong Un “Fire and Fury” before “falling in love” with him. But tariffs seem to be something he really believes in so it seems impossible to predict what his next step will be.

I just want to add to the conversation how here in Canada every store is promoting their Canadian made products while shoppers are purposefully boycotting American made stuff, it’s part of a movement known as “Buy Canadian.” It’s strange seeing so many Canadian flags in stores and nationalistic messaging everywhere, Canada is not as patriotic usually as the USA, but it is nice to see everyone coming together when our country is being threatened by America.

Thank you for adding the Canadian perspective here! I knew I was seeing more Canadian flags than usual. If there’s one good thing that I’m hoping will come out of this whole mess, it’s that Canadians will share the delicious bottles that have been acting as replacements for American (or even European) brands. Saw someone make a Negroni with all Canadian booze, and I will spend forever trying to get my hands on it all.
