Instead of a year-in-review post, I present to you the wine books released this year that have been added to my bookshelf and made an impact on my personal studies. Buy them for the wine lover in your life, or pick up a copy for yourself to comb through in the last week of 2023. All four of these books are resources I will continue to open up time and time again, and I hope to learn something new every time I do. Cheers, and may your 2024 be full of good wine and good times!
How To Drink Australian by Jane Lopes and Jonathan Ross
This is the book I waited all year to read, and it has quickly become an invaluable resource in my sommelier studies. Jane Lopes and Jonathan Ross are two of the brightest minds in wine, and their combined knowledge and love of Australian wine have brought us the defining tome of the continent. As with Lopes’ memoir Vignette, there are several ways to read How To Drink Australian; the maps by cartographer Martin von Wyss are thoroughly detailed, the somm recommendations for wines from a particular sub-region are on point, and at every page there is so much reverence for the land. A wonderful reference book, but so much more than that, this is a must-read for anyone interested in modern winemaking.
